A single number from 0 to 100 describing how a ride compares with your own recent riding, rather than with anyone else’s. It blends how hard you rode, which counts for 60%, with how much you rode, which counts for 40% — both measured against a rolling picture of your last 90 days. The number to anchor on is 50: a ride right at your normal lands there, so above 50 means you did more than usual and below means an easier or shorter day. Because the reference is your own history, an 85 means the same thing for a first-season rider as for a racer — that was an excellent ride, for you.
Usually straight away. Your first connection imports up to two years of riding, so most riders have a full baseline before they score a single new ride. If you are starting with little history, RideIQ marks the baseline calibrating after one ride, then low confidence from two to seven rides, medium from eight to nineteen, and high once around twenty are in. It keeps adapting after that: the baseline is a rolling 90 days weighted towards recent riding, so a ride from 45 days ago counts half as much as today’s. That is deliberate — the reference follows your current form rather than your best-ever summer.
Yes. Every ride is scored and every ride feeds your baseline — there is no minimum distance or duration. A short ride simply scores lower on the volume side, because it was shorter than your typical ride, while still earning full credit on intensity if you rode it hard. The one requirement is data rather than length: a ride needs about a minute of usable heart-rate or power data to produce an intensity reading, and a ride with neither gets a conservative neutral value instead.
No. RideIQ scores every ride whether or not you ride with power. If a ride has no power data the same analysis runs on your heart rate, and the volume side of the score never needed power at all — so your scores, trends and Fitness Report all work either way. Where a power meter does matter is the Lab: equipment comparisons and A/B tests work by measuring the watts needed to hold a given speed, so those need power. The Lab’s heart-rate and cadence charts, and its aerobic decoupling analysis, do not.
Yes. Indoor, trainer and virtual rides sync from Strava like any other ride and are scored the same way — intensity comes from your power or heart rate and volume comes from time, so neither needs GPS. A trainer session with a power meter or heart rate strap earns a full RideIQ Score. Two things do differ. Replay needs a route to fly over, so a ride recorded without GPS cannot be replayed or exported. And RideIQ Lab compares equipment by the watts needed to hold a real-world speed, which a trainer or a virtual course such as Zwift does not measure in the same terms — so pick outdoor rides when you run an equipment A/B test.
Yes. RideIQ reads your rides from Strava rather than recording them itself, so a Strava account is required — connecting it is free and takes a moment. Whatever your head unit or phone already uploads to Strava is what RideIQ analyzes.
Not at present. RideIQ is built for iPhone and iPad and needs iOS or iPadOS 16.6 or later. If an Android version is something you would want, tell us at support@rideiq.fit — knowing there is demand genuinely helps us decide what to build next.
Yes. RideIQ is free to use for 30 days, with no obligation. The trial is there so you can connect Strava and see what RideIQ does with your own riding before you decide anything.
The base price is US$6.99 per month or US$59.99 per year, which works out about 28% cheaper than paying monthly. What you actually pay depends on where you are — Apple sets local pricing using its own exchange rates and adds any tax that applies in your country, so the App Store will show you the exact amount before you confirm anything.
New rides stop syncing from Strava. Everything RideIQ has already brought in stays on your device and remains usable — so what ends is new rides arriving, not access to the riding you already have.
No. When you subscribe, RideIQ checks Strava for available rides going back up to two years, so the riding you did while paused gets picked up rather than lost. Pausing costs you the sync while it lasts, not the history.
There is a subscribe button at the top of the home screen in the app. You can use it whenever you like — during the trial, when it ends, or later on.
Subscriptions are handled by Apple, so you cancel on your device rather than inside RideIQ: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose RideIQ. Cancelling stops future renewals and you keep access until the period you have already paid for runs out. As during the trial, the rides RideIQ has already brought in stay on your device.
No. A subscription covers the single Apple Account it was bought with and is not shared through Family Sharing, so each rider needs their own. That also keeps the numbers meaningful — every score is measured against the history of the rider who earned it, so accounts are not really shareable in practice either.
Open the RideIQ app and follow the prompts to connect your Strava account. You’ll be redirected to Strava to authorize access. Once connected, your rides will sync automatically.
Most rides sync shortly after they are uploaded to Strava. If you don’t see a ride, try refreshing in the app or check your Strava connection.
Up to two years of riding, or 730 rides within that window, whichever comes first — that is roughly a ride a day for two years, so most riders get the full two years. Having that history from the start is what lets RideIQ score your very first ride against your own baseline, rather than making you build one up before the app becomes useful.
The raw data attached to your Strava rides — distance, speed, elevation, heart rate, cadence, and power where your device recorded it. RideIQ uses it to build your baseline and score each ride. It reads from Strava only: nothing RideIQ produces is written back to your Strava account.
Every one of those numbers comes from a test taken on a single day, and they drift out of date as your fitness moves. Most riders retest rarely, so a figure set in spring can end up describing a whole season. RideIQ skips the step entirely: it reads your actual rides — power, heart rate, speed and effort patterns — works out what is normal for you, and measures each ride against that. Nothing to calibrate, nothing to set up, and the reference updates itself every time you ride.
No. Zones all descend from one number — usually FTP or threshold heart rate — and that number is only as good as the last time you tested it. Most riders test rarely, so zones quietly drift out of date while fitness keeps moving. They are also applied the same way whether you are fresh or fatigued, riding in the cold or in the heat. RideIQ skips the middle step: rather than measuring a ride against a threshold you set months ago, it compares it against what you have actually been riding recently. One thing worth being clear about — RideIQ analyzes rides, it does not prescribe them. If you follow a structured plan built on zones, RideIQ will not replace it; it will tell you how each ride actually went.
The part of RideIQ that tests equipment using rides you have already done. It sorts your riding into speed bins and asks how many watts it took to hold each speed, then compares two setups — wheels, tires, pressure, position, clothing — and reports the difference in watts, with the sample it was built from and a confidence rating attached. You can run a quick A/B between two rides, or tag equipment as you go and let the comparison build over a season. It needs power data. A leaderboard for a group you ride with, ranked on your three best RideIQ Scores each week rather than on distance, speed or elevation. Because every score is already measured against the rider who earned it, a first-season rider and a decade-deep racer compete on the same board. The week runs Monday to Sunday and then clears, so nothing carries over. There is a fuller explanation in The strongest rider doesn’t always win.
A 3D flyover of a ride that you open and watch in the app — scrub it, slow it to real time or run it at speed — rebuilt from the GPS and sensor data the ride already contains. Eleven camera angles are chosen automatically by the RideIQ Director, which finds the ride’s real peaks and decides where the cuts fall, so no two exports look quite the same. No. Every score, chart, comparison and report is calculated on your own device using fixed, deterministic formulas applied to your riding history. There are no machine-learning models, no AI services and no server-side analysis anywhere in RideIQ — which is also why the same ride always produces the same numbers, and why the app can show you the evidence behind them.
No. Your data crosses the network for three reasons, none of which is analysis: Strava, where your rides come from; iCloud, which syncs your own data between your devices and powers any club leaderboard you have joined; and Apple Maps, which supplies the map tiles Replay draws on. Once a ride is on your phone, every calculation happens there.
Your data is stored on your phone and your iCloud account. We have enabled iCloud data deletion within the app, in Profile Summary. When you delete the app, all related data on your phone will be removed. Data on your Strava account is untouched.
